Powered Exoskeleton

Purpose

  • Workers conducting operations, perform strenuous, repeated, dull, and time-consuming tasks which lead to hand, back, and body fatigue,  sometimes leading to injuries
  • The application of robotics and sensors is a great avenue to minimize fatigue, reduce injuries and enhance the productivity of the workforce

Project Goals

  • Design a powered, upper arm exoskeleton mechanical system to assist glovebox operations that may aid the workers and minimize health/safety concerns
  • Design a smart, adaptive, intent-driven control system to support a variety of complex glovebox tasks
  • Evaluate and optimize mechanical and control system design to reduce fatigue among glovebox workers
